What Reverse Osmosis Does

RO clears up taste and odor and takes out the stuff you'd rather not drink. Water runs through filters and a fine membrane, then into a small storage tank under the sink. The system feeds its own faucet at the sink, the one you fill glasses and the coffee pot from.

Most under-sink systems put a sediment filter and a carbon filter ahead of the membrane and a final filter after it. Each one catches something the others don't.

We Test Your Water First

Joe tests your water before he recommends equipment. City water in Springfield and well water out in the county need different treatment, and the test shows what yours needs.

Where It Goes

RO needs space under the sink, a drain connection and a hole for its faucet. On a granite counter, that hole has to be drilled. Joe is a licensed master plumber. He ties the system into your plumbing and drain the right way, so it won't be the next leak under your sink.

Upkeep

The filters and the membrane wear out and need changing. We tell you how often before you buy.

Reverse Osmosis or a Softener

RO treats the water you drink at one tap. Spots on glasses and crust on faucets come from hardness in all the water the house uses, and that takes a water softener where the water comes in. Joe tells you whether you need RO, a softener or both.

Typical Range Around Springfield

Reverse osmosis, under the sink$700 to $2,500
This is a typical local price range. It isn't a quote. RO costs more when a granite counter has to be drilled or the line has to come from another room. Joe gives you an estimate for your exact setup before we start.

Common Questions

Is Springfield tap water safe?
Municipal water here is treated and monitored. Safety is a separate question from taste and hardness. RO changes how the water tastes in your glass, your food and your coffee.
We're on a well. Will RO work?
Joe tests the well water first. Well water around here can carry more minerals, and some wells need treatment where the water comes in before an RO system at the sink makes sense. UV light filtration is popular on wells here too.
Will RO fix my spotted glasses and crusty faucets?
Not by itself. That's hardness, and a softener treats it for the whole house.

From our water treatment calls

“Came out within the week and assessed what I needed done. Next day came back and installed a new water softener/filtration system. Gave a good price on labor and for the system and was a upstanding guy. Super timely and decent prices. I'll be going back to him for my plumbing needs.”
